In Theatre looked at advancements in medical imaging and our relationship to the imaged body in MRI.
During a workshop with people who have undergone a medical scan, participants used electromagnetic listening devices to detect electronics beneath an opaque canvas, marking the position and intensity of the sound on its surface. The task prompted a discussion about the difference between ‘noise’ and ‘signal’ in the context of medical imaging.
Next, the group collaged and traced over MRI images through carbon paper to create an unseen drawing, while reflecting on their medical scanning experiences and technical developments in the field. Extracts from the
shared testimonies were re-recorded to form the basis of an audio piece. Listen here
The drawings created during the discussion were vectorised and programmed into a laser engraving device to create a communal artwork.
